Country Hotel & Equestrian Center in Avdou Crete

The estate is 3,5 hectare large and located in the country side of the village Avdou, in the province of Heraklion, on the island of Crete in Greece.

The moment you arrive on the hillside of the country hotel you immediately experience the serene quietness and the tremendous panoramic view. Under the hotel stretches the Lagada Valley with the Apposelemis River crossing through, above the hotel rise the red coloured peaks of the Dikti Mountains. Birds of prey, like the Griffon Vulture, glide along these peaks.
The estate is surrounded by protected Kermes Oak forest and olive groves stretching down to the valley. On the estate many protected trees and flowers can be found, like different types of beautiful orchids.

The country hotel suits its surrounding as it is built with real natural stones collected from the land it stands on, giving it a robust and natural look. The hotel has a neo-classic style creating a romantic atmosphere for long summer nights.

The main building houses the reception and a romantic bar with a large balcony on witch you can drink your Greek coffee or Rakí. In the main building you also find the Panorama Restaurant with its large terrace overlooking the riding place and the valley. The restaurant serves the Cretan diet which is famous for being healthy and the use of olive oil. The olive oil is our own produce by the olive grove of the estate.

The country hotel is situated on a 3,8 hectare large estate.
The estate is surrounded by protected forest, the Kermes Oak (Quercus Coccifera) and Holm Oak (Quercus Ilex), wild nature, and olive groves stretching down to the valley.
Various wild life and many birds can be found on the estate. On the estate many protected trees, mushrooms and flowers can be found, like different types of beautiful orchids.

The country hotel has 2 naturally formed swimming pools.
The large pool is 100 m² (13 x 7.5 m) and is from 1,30 - 1,60 m deep.

The children pool lies separately from the deep pool.
This pool is 11 m² (4.5 x 2,5) and 40 cm deep.

All our rooms are designed to give you a feeling of relaxing and freedom by living outdoors.
The rooms are grouped into bungalows which lie quietly separate from the main activities and are surrounded by nature.
The rooms are large and comfortable and all have a tremendous view over the Lagada Valley.

Grand Comfort Room

The room is situated on the ground floor and has a terrace. A large glass window of 2 meters wide, connects the room with the terrace. The room has 2 twin beds and a single bed. A large bathroom with a bathtub.
Rooms are equipped with a small fridge, telephone, hairdryer, a wood stove and individually controlled central heating or air-conditioning.

Panorama VIP Room

The room is situated on the first floor and has a large balcony. A glass window of 2 meters wide connects the room with the balcony. The room has 2 twin beds and 2 single beds. The large bathroom has a bathtub, a separate shower cabin and has in a separate room the toilet.
Rooms are equipped with a small fridge, telephone, hairdryer, a wood stove or fire place, and individually controlled air-conditioning or central heating.

2 - 4 guests 30 m²

Family Luxury Room

These rooms are situated on the ground floor and consist of 2 separate bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own terraces. The master bedroom has 2 twin beds and a wood stove. The second bedroom has 3 single beds. Both bedrooms have an individual bathroom each with bathtub and toilet.
Rooms are equipped with a small fridge, telephone, hairdryer, and individually controlled air-conditioning or heating.

2 - 5 guests 45 m²

The rooms have a terrace or balcony with valley view, a large bathrooms with a bathtub,
telephone, central heating and air-conditioning.

The estate also gives home to 14 horses and 3 ponies, housed in the Odysseia Stables. Also the stables are built with natural stones but above all they are designed to be horse friendly!
The equestrian centre is professionally organised with equine schooled teachers, safe & healthy & happy horses, good equipment, all weather arena and high standard facilities.
Outside horse riding for medium and experienced riders from 12 year and older.
Beginners and novice rider only horse riding lessons in the arena. Children can join these horse riding lessons from 8 years and older. Younger children only some rounds on horse back possible.

Other activities in the hotel are Paragliding for experienced flyers, hiking, caving and mountain climbing for all levels. Ask us for the different programs. It is possible to rent mountain bikes.
A 18 hole golf course is located at 7 km.
The traditional Greek village of Avdou lies at 2 km distance. The village has 250 inhabitants. Here time has stand still.
The wide sandy beach of Anissaras lies at 15 km distance.
The airport lies at 40 km distance.
