About the Villa

The Villa is a charming traditional villa, in the heart of the historic village of Armenoi, 7 km south of Rethymno. A 300 years old building has been brilliantly renovated, keeping its traditional architectural features and the charming atmosphere of older Cretan village houses. A stone arc, limestone floors and handmade oak furniture enhance this atmosphere. At the same time, an eclectic decoration with a modern twist adds contemporary charm and comfort.

The Villa is a two floor house 165 sq. m in size and can accommodate 6-8 people. It has three bedrooms, one with a mezzanine, two bathrooms and a WC. The house has also a private swimming pool and parking space as well as central heating when needed. Furthermore it is specially designed to facilitate access to the disabled.

The Villa is designed in an environment-friendly manner. Except of the chlorine-free swimming pool, care has been taken to avoid unnecessary energy loss. Lighting is using electricity saving bulbs, the water is heated by sun collectors and cool temperatures in the house are ensured by its thick stone walls, its careful insulation and its position. Air-conditioning is not necessary, but fans are provided instead if an extra measure is desired.

The Villa offers its residents free fast internet connection. This together with the availability of a study makes Villa Verde ideal for those who need to combine holiday with work.

Within a few minutes walk from the villa there are several taverns, a supermarket, a pharmacy and a gas station. The famous Late Minoan Cemetery of Armenoi is just one km away, while some of the most magnificent beaches of Southern Crete are only about 30 km away. The area also offers a multitude of interesting walking routes to the nearby villages and Mt Vrysinas.

Description

Patio and garden

The house opens to a large stone paved patio and a secluded mature garden, where various fruit trees grow (grape, mulberry, pomegranate, plum, orange, lemon and olive trees) along with herbs (basil, thyme, oregano, parsley, marjoram) and an abundance of colourful flowers. An outside dinning space, a barbeque, and two more sitting areas are arranged under the trees and in shaded spots.

The villa has its own private pool lined with stunning green mosaic tiles. This swimming pool is in harmony with the surrounding lush garden but also offers an environment - friendly, chlorine-free alternative to the standard hotel-type swimming pools.

The rooms

On the ground floor, large French windows lead to an open plan kitchen and dinning area which is connected to the sitting room with a beautiful wide stone arc. A fireplace, a TV set, a DVD player and a Hi-Fi system along with a small collection of movies and music pieces are part of the house's amenities. The elegant kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker and toaster. A small WC, off the sitting room, serves also as a laundry room with a washing-drying machine. On the ground floor there is also a twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom, all specially adapted to the needs of wheel chair users.

On the first floor there is one twin bedroom with its own balcony and views of the old houses of the village and the nearby Venetian church. The second bedroom has a double bed and opens to a shaded terrace with a coffee table and chairs. An oak staircase leads from this bedroom to a mezzanine that functions as a small sitting room and study. This space can easily be turned into a twin bedroom for children. The first floor bedrooms share a bathroom which includes both a bath and a shower.
